Mauritius and Réunion may be close geographically, but each island offers a distinctly different travel experience.
Mauritius is renowned for its beautiful lagoons, beaches, coral reefs and multicultural heritage. It is an inviting destination for travellers who want to combine relaxation with cultural discovery.
Réunion Island, meanwhile, offers a more dramatic landscape. Volcanic peaks, deep cirques, rugged coastlines and lush mountain scenery create exceptional opportunities for exploration.
Cruising between these destinations allows you to experience both without having to constantly repack and change hotels.
Explore Port Louis
The capital, Port Louis, provides an introduction to the island's multicultural character. Markets, historic buildings, local food and lively streets offer opportunities to experience Mauritius beyond its beaches.
Discover Tropical Lagoons
Mauritius is surrounded by clear waters and coral reefs, making the surrounding marine environment one of the attractions of an Indian Ocean voyage.
Depending on your itinerary and shore excursions, you may have opportunities to enjoy the water, explore the coastline or simply appreciate the scenery.
Experience Mauritian Culture
Mauritius reflects centuries of cultural influences, including African, Indian, European and Chinese heritage. Food, architecture, markets and local traditions all contribute to the island's distinctive character.
Réunion Island is ideal for travellers who want to experience something more adventurous than a traditional tropical island escape.
A French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, Réunion combines spectacular volcanic scenery with a fascinating multicultural identity.
Discover Volcanic Landscapes
The island's volcanic origins are impossible to miss. Dramatic mountains and rugged terrain create spectacular scenery for photographers, hikers and nature lovers.
Explore the Pitons, Cirques and Remparts
Réunion's Pitons, cirques and remparts form a UNESCO World Heritage-listed landscape and represent one of the island's most extraordinary natural attractions.
The dramatic terrain provides a striking contrast to the beaches and lagoons found elsewhere in the Indian Ocean.
Experience a Different Side of the Indian Ocean
Réunion offers a more rugged and active experience than many tropical island destinations. Mountain scenery, volcanic formations and lush vegetation make it particularly appealing to travellers who enjoy nature and exploration.

Experience the tropical elegance of Mauritius alongside the volcanic landscapes of Réunion Island.
2. Experience the Indian Ocean in Luxury

4. Experience Remarkable Cultural Diversity
Mauritian and Réunionese culture reflects a fascinating blend of European, African, Indian and Creole influences.
5. Combine Relaxation and Adventure

The smaller scale of PONANT's ships also complements expedition-style destinations particularly well, allowing guests to enjoy a more intimate cruising experience while discovering remarkable places.
For travellers interested in exploring more of the region, Mauritius and Réunion can also form part of a broader PONANT Indian Ocean itinerary, potentially connecting with destinations such as Madagascar, the Seychelles or other islands depending on the voyage.
